Our Story

Germany-Middle Ages:
Martin, on his trusty steed, rides through the countryside on his way to the manor house miles away. He sits atop his strong horse, carefully watching for bandits. His shining armor glistens with the wet remains of heavily falling snow.

As he approaches the edge of a deep, dark forest, he spots a poor beggar sitting by the side of the path. Martin stops and speaks to the beggar……

"You are very cold and I have a warm coat. I will give you part of it," Martin says. He takes his mighty sword, well-proven in many battles, cuts the coat from the collar to the hem, and gives one half of his heavy garment to the beggar.

After leaving the man, Martin voyages on into the forbidding woods. The storm becomes worse, blinding his vision and caking both him and his mount with ice. He is hopelessly lost! Just as Martin is about to seek shelter wherever he can, he suddenly comes upon a small log cabin in a clearing by the edge of a beautiful pond. The sign over the cabin door reads, "Home is where the Rott is." From the cabin walks the beggar!!!

"Greetings, my friend," the beggar salutes. "Since you were so kind to me earlier, I will shelter you and your horse from the storm!"

Martin's jaw drops open!!! He dismounts, settles his horse in the barn and walks into the warm, cozy cabin of a master carpenter. Nestled by the fire are nine Rottweilers! Each, in turn, rises to greet him with loving nudges and licks. Martin rests comfortably in one of the handmade chairs that the woodsman has made to furnish the house. He sleeps well that night with a full stomach of warm homemade rabbit stew and the largest male Rottweiler close by his side.

The next day dawns clear and beautiful. The storm has passed. Martin prepares to leave, thanking the woodsman for helping HIM and mounts his huge war horse.

"Wait!" the woodsman said. "Since you were so kind to me by giving me part of your coat when I was cold and thought I would not make it home from the village, I wish to give YOU a gift!" And the woodsman led his most magnificent Rottweiler to Martin's side.

"Take him to be your companion throughout your voyages and he will defend, love and care for you as you care for others! These dogs have all come to me as homeless ones, finding my cabin as their sanctuary, and this one will have a GOOD master in YOU!"

Martin smiled, patted the dog solidly, and departed with his new companion walking close by the horse's side…..the man we now know as St. Martin turned in his saddle, waved to the woodsman, bid farewell to the warm, cozy cabin and a fond adieu to MMRR…., refuge for homeless Rottweilers!!!

Michigan, U.S.A. - Present Day

Welcome to Mid- Michigan Rottweiler Rescue! Let us tell you about our rescue…

Back in 1984, Dr. Evelyn Ellman along with her husband, Jack, of Augusta, Michigan, (Von Stolzenfelz Rottweilers) began Mid-Michigan Rottweiler Rescue along with a few friends who fostered the homeless ones. Evelyn and Jack began by fostering one dog at a time and finding LIFELONG, LOVING, RESPONSIBLE homes for each dog. Many of the adopters had, at one time, been puppy buyers of Von Stolzenfels Rottweilers.

Since the beginning of our rescue group, we have grown as an organization, incorporated, expanded our MMRR *family* .

We are SO HAPPY to have you visiting with us! And while you're here, please take a minute to sign our GUEST BOOK!!! We LOVE to see where all of our visitors are from! We would like to INTRODUCE you to our CO-HOSTS for the Mid-Michigan Rottweiler Rescue,  web site....they will take you on a "tour" of all of the pages.

HI!!!
rommelhd.gif (12869 bytes)My name is ROMMEL. I have had a long and happy life and recently went to THE RAINBOW BRIDGE where I now look out for everyone.....I was born into my mom's "arms" on January 28, 1988, and went to The Bridge in my "mom's" arms on June 29, 1999. I had an amazing life and am still loved DEARLY...

I am.... U-CDX Rommel von Veda, CDX, TDX, SchH II, FH, TT, HIC, CGC- TDI…and spent a lot of time training and competing, but I retired several years ago. So, in my *couch-potato* days, we have had frequent foster *girlfriends* at our house and transported a number of rescues here and there. At The Rainbow Bridge, I, along with my SPECIAL FRIENDS, am now ever vigilant, watching for and helping find all the rescues some WONDERFUL homes!
