Do
not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there,
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there,
I did not die.

Waiting for that touch... patiently
waiting....
My rescue, Otis, died in the spring of 2000 from
complication of bowel injuries suffered as an abused
puppy. Many people from around the country donated to
our veterinarian for the care and rehabilitation of
Otis. His last 200 dollars were spent to fix his
mother's eye after being shot in it.
Also, an update on his sisters who were shot by a

February 20, 2001, and Chess had surgery the same day
for gunshot wound to the foot. She is recovering
well.

I
rescued you from hurting fists and neglectful ways,
You rescued me from lonely days.
You sat by my side patiently waiting for even the
smallest touch,
And I loved you so much.
Said to be no good.
Just liked to run the neighborhood ,
Giving a polite little lick
And maybe someone would throw you a stick.
The game is on and you run and play.

I cannot explain why that man shot you but mommy

We got her at 5
weeks old from people that were already abusing her
and had her almost 5 years. Her life was cut short by
cancer witch she fought until the end. She finally is
in no pain, she knows we'll always be with us in a
special way. We will miss the wag of her tail and the
soft kisses when we returned home, and the
unconditional love that she gave everyone. She was
our rescue rott we believe that papers don't make the
dog the dog makes the dog and a good owner helps make
that dog a good dog.We gave he everything we could
and she gave it right back no strings attached all
she asked for was Love and we gave her that. She was
given to us by God for a reason and taken away for
another she will always be in our hearts
and soon there will be another, but none will take
her place. She was brave until the end before she
parted she liked my cheek as if to tell me she was
O.K. and that we would meet again someday. We will
miss your floppy ears that were too big for

gave. Just remember us as we will remember you ,wait

May 29, 2001 - My lovely
Exie (Regensberg Exel SchH III) is gone. He was 10
years old. I took Exie for one last walk in the woods
on Monday evening and on Tuesday morning, he was put
to sleep. Then I brought him home and buried him.
Exie and I won everything that was open to us in
Schutzhund. We travelled all over the British Isles
and beat all comers over the years. At times, it was
embarrassing, as we needed a wheelbarrow to take away
all the trophies from some trials we competed in.
Best in tracking, best in obedience, best in
protection, best overall score.....there was nothing
left for anybody else! Though Exie was retired for
the past four years, he still felt very much like a
partner to me. This is certainly a door closing on a
major part of my life. There will never be another
like him. Wish him well. He was a good one.

Our dog, Candy, did not die, but was stolen from us
and from our hearts. She was taken on March 10, 2001.
We looked for her endlessly at the pounds, the
shelters, and the rescues. Nobody had seen her. We
put ads in the paper and flyers in the neighborhood.
Not even her dog tag that offered a reward could
bring her back.
We got Candy in June of 1991. She was 10 years old
this month. She was our second child. We miss her
very much... that funny bark, her too-friendly
attitude and, most of all, her. We are considering
welcoming a new puppy on Friday. We think it will be
a tough day for us. Well thanks for listening

writes: Dewey (aka Winston) was turned into an animal shelter in New
Jersey. He has NO hair and had been misdiagnosed with
sarcoptic mange. As a result, he was placed in isolation for
two months with no outside contact. When he was FINALLY
treated, he was placed for adoption and I was called. I agreed
to take him, along with a seven year old female, also in the New
Jersey shelter. With the kind efforts of some other rescue
folks working together from New Jersey to Indiana, Dewey and Pearl
were transported over the first weekend in December to our shelter
in Illinois. I had been told that Dewey was six to eight years old.
He was NOT!! He was somewhere around TWELVE! He was so
wracked with arthritis that he could hardly walk, nor could he hold
up his head. Around his neck were scars from collars.
His toes had been frozen. He had severe arthritis in his back
and neck and suffered from a total loss of bladder and bowel
control. He NEVER EVER should have been left to suffer. We
tried everything to help him, including drugs and massage therapy.
my vet was convinced that the lameness in his front leg was cancer -
he would fall down and would be very disoriented. So, last night, I
helped him the only best way I could...I sent him to The Bridge...
My vet did it slowly, so there were a couple minutes where he was
awake and pain-free. His face became so beautiful...not all
scrunched up...he was finally free of pain and in a far better place
than the apparently sad life he had.

Dear Winston,
I do not know all that you
suffered, only that you did
I do not know why your owners
left you, only that they did
I do not know how to fix your
pain, only that I must
I do not know how I found the
strength, only that I must
I tried to fix what someone else
broke
I tried to mend the cancer in
your bones
I tried to show you love you

Now God has your paw, you are

joined his Rott'n surrogate *moms*, Ara and Beste at the Bridge
today. The staff at my new vet clinic couldn't have been better!
They had a beautiful quilt ready for us and ice cubes for Razzie.
We did one last desperate measure of x-rays and bloodwork to look for
tumors. Razz went from 200.8 lbs in February at his annual
physical to 149 lbs. at today's weight. We found a grapefruit sized
tumor in the abdomen and a mass on the right leg. He
will be deeply, deeply missed! My vet was in tears by the time
we were done, listening to me tell him to run and get Beste and Ara....that
they were waiting at The Bridge... to give them a big hug from down

RUDY
Rudy
went to Rainbow Bridge on May 2, 2002. Rudy was and still is the soul
and spirit in this family. The boys he raised are in the picture with
him a few days before he felt no more pain. Rudy had tumors throughout
his lungs and tummy. He was born November 8,1992. I and his
mother chose him when he was two weeks old, and he came home with me
the day he turned eight weeks. Boy, did Rudy's mom give me the best
dog, child and friend I could ever have had! He was 1 1/2
years old when I went into labor for Joey, our oldest child.
Rudy stayed by my side as always and kept licking my
stomach with every contraction (he was a colicky puppy, so I had to
always rub his tummy) ... so I guess he was returning the belly rubs.
He also helped with our second son, Willie. And he carried out
parenthood, also, because he never left them alone when they were home
or if he was with us camping, at the park or visiting friends. When
the boys went to school he put them on the bus and got them off the
bus. He knew the exact time. And he was always at the door exactly
when his Daddy came home from work. He also took on the resposibility
of helping with my Mom with Alhiezmers until we mourned her passing.
And Rudy raised two kittens and a Bloodhound puppy who is mourning him
terriably. Rudy was a gentle giant. He loved life itself, and whoever
was in his life he loved unconditionally. He was a lifesaver,
guardian, and best friend who helped me through a lot of tough times.
I am missing him so badly! I just wish he was still here with
me. The only good thing is that he is not feeling the pain he had.
He never complained. He still tried to do everything he
did before, but just couldn't. So, if you could please add his picture
and my memory of him for everyone to see, then maybe it will help heal
the hole I have now aching for him.

bad. Darby's body was rebelling against her. We rushed her to the

would not live but a few more hours and painful ones at that. We
opted to put her down. This was one of the hardest things we ever had
to do, but it needed to be done. Just days before she was playful and
full of love for anyone. It seems as if she was here then instantly
taken away. We received Darby as a pup and knew right away how special

It was very hard for me to put him down, but we know that was the only

Like a bright, white bolt of lightning, this loving and joyful spirit arrived. We did many things together and had an enormous amount of fun. I wish she hadn't been my first, so that the mistakes I made in learning to communicate would not have been visited upon her.
We visited and entertained our friends, sometimes by tracking them. No one
was ever unintentionally intimidated by her. We traveled the U.S. and
Mexico - lakes, deserts, rivers, mountains, oceans, she enjoyed a goodly
amount of this world. Mostly, we just enjoyed each other's company.
She cured various ills during her too-short time here, but would never admit
her own pain and suffering. She drove unflinchingly to the end. She was
beautiful to more than the eye.
She was loved by nearly everyone fortunate enough to have met her. Upon
learning of her departure, many of them cried with me. She was the finest
thing I've experienced. And like some strange penitence, I had to summon an
usher from the Rainbow Bridge. Something pure left this earth that day as
that lightning bolt retracted skyward.
And I miss her sorely.Scott Donovan

Natasha
In Loving Memory of 'Meads Natasha Jo'
- 6/11/93- 2/26/05
I've heard it said that although we may have many companions throughout our life, there is one that will be our 'heart dog'. That was Natasha. I miss her with every ounce of my being, her presence was so very large and she's left behind such a large space in our hearts and our home..and although I would never wish her back in the pain she was in, her loss is almost unbearable.
A friend sent a card that said 'there is a new bright star shining in the sky tonight.. named Natasha'. A poignant memory came flooding back to me of one particular beautiful summer night several years ago- I'd gone out to our backyard and couldn't help but notice how brilliant the stars were that night- millions of them scattered across the heavens like diamonds. I looked down by my side where Natasha sat, and she was also looking up into the sky in the same direction I had been, as if she too was humbled by the vastness of creation. She gazed up at me with her beautiful soul-filled eyes, and that comfortable knowing passed between us- a connection that only those bound by the spirit can share and feel. Did she possibly see something written in the heavens that I could not?
I read a passage from the e- book 'Dog Star' today that makes me think that perhaps she could..
"Dogs have it too, that spirit. I think their spirit goes up there, to Sirius, the Dog Star. I can't imagine anything else that would keep it burning so bright and constant."
So shine on, my brightest star- my brave strong girl. I am a better human being for having shared your life- your goodness- your love and your understanding. Your patience and your humor- your joy and even your sorrow. I could never wish for a more loyal or loving friend. Life must go on, but it will never be the same. Less painful with time, but never the same.
Bless you all for the work you do,

The
Candle Ceremony

The candles being lit tonight
Cast
a soft and welcome flame.
And
draw our loved ones to the light,
As
we call to them by name.
Imagine
spirits taking flight,
For
a moment our souls entwine.
Say
not Good Night, but in some
Brighter
Time
Bid
them all -
Good
Morning!

When
You Need Me

And
if I go,
while you're still here
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure
-behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You
will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again
- both aware of each other.
Until
then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
I will be there.

Art International,
**Not
an Angel**
The young pup and the older dog lay on shaded
sweet grass watching
the reunions. Sometimes a man, sometimes a woman,
sometimes a
whole family would approach the Rainbow Bridge, be
greeted by
their loving pets and cross the bridge together.
The young pup playfully nipped at the older one.
"Look! Something
wonderful is happening!" The older dog stood up
and barked,
"Quickly. Get over to the path."
"But that's not my owner," whined the pup,
but he did as he was told.
Thousands of pets surged forward as a figure in white
walked on
the path toward the bridge. After the glowing figure
passed each
animal, that animal bowed it's head in love and
respect. The figure
finally approached the bridge, and was met by a
menagerie of joyous
animals. Together, they all walked over the bridge
and disappeared.
The young pup was still in awe. "Was that an
angel?" he whispered.
"No, son." The older dog replied.
"That was more than an angel.
That was a person who worked rescue."
