Our Beloved Dogs At Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All of the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing they miss their *someone* very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, NEVER to be parted again! The happy kisses rain upon your face. Your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but NEVER absent from your heart.

Then, you cross The Rainbow Bridge TOGETHER.

A GIFT OF PAWS

In the silence of the morning
my heart begins to break
as feelings from the day you left
dawn slowly with daybreak
.

I say a prayer of grateful thanks
for the life that I've been blessed,
and ask for strength so that I might
through pain find happiness.

God sent you as a present
though not received on Christmas day.
A gift of paws that reached down deep
and stole my heart away.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there,
I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there,
I did not die.

Another turning point,
a fork stuck in the road,
Time grabs you by the wrist,
                         directs you where to go,
So make the best of this quest and don't ask why,

For Otis...

Waiting for that touch... patiently waiting....
My rescue, Otis, died in the spring of 2000 from complication of bowel injuries suffered as an abused puppy. Many people from around the country donated to our veterinarian for the care and rehabilitation of Otis. His last 200 dollars were spent to fix his mother's eye after being shot in it.
Also, an update on his sisters who were shot by a neighbor... Sandy was killed by gunshot wounds on February 20, 2001, and Chess had surgery the same day for gunshot wound to the foot. She is recovering well.

Love for all dogs,
Sherri Rowland Sheramy@webtv.net Culpeper, VA

I rescued you from hurting fists and neglectful ways,
You rescued me from lonely days.
You sat by my side patiently waiting for even the smallest touch,
And I loved you so much.

Said to be no good.
Just liked to run the neighborhood ,
Giving a polite little lick
And maybe someone would throw you a stick.

The game is on and you run and play.
Sandy, in my heart you will stay.

I cannot explain why that man shot you but mommy misses you. I do not
sleep .... you are not at my side.

Rest easy, little sweet baby.

So many memories and so many miles,
The road that stretches behind us,
We've had some laughter and our share of tears,
But all these moments unite us.

I'll be your friend for a lifetime,
Against the wind and the rain of every season,
Won't walk away in the hard times,
I will be your friend....

Rest in peace, Brandy, and God speed on your journey to The Bridge. Your spirit will always be with us...

JADE
We got her at 5 weeks old from people that were already abusing her and had her almost 5 years. Her life was cut short by cancer witch she fought until the end. She finally is in no pain, she knows we'll always be with us in a special way. We will miss the wag of her tail and the soft kisses when we returned home, and the unconditional love that she gave everyone. She was our rescue rott we believe that papers don't make the dog the dog makes the dog and a good owner helps make that dog a good dog.We gave he everything we could and she gave it right back no strings attached all she asked for was Love and we gave her that. She was given to us by God for a reason and taken away for another she will always be in  our hearts and soon there will be another, but none will take her place. She was brave until the end before she parted she liked my cheek as if to tell me she was O.K. and that we would meet again someday. We will miss your floppy ears that were too big  for your head, the nights you spent lying in our bed while I was sick and all the companionship you
gave. Just remember us as we will remember you ,wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge for someday we will all be there to play

Exel
SEAN_EXCEL.jpg (10320 bytes)May 29, 2001 - My lovely Exie (Regensberg Exel SchH III) is gone. He was 10 years old. I took Exie for one last walk in the woods on Monday evening and on Tuesday morning, he was put to sleep. Then I brought him home and buried him. Exie and I won everything that was open to us in Schutzhund. We travelled all over the British Isles and beat all comers over the years. At times, it was embarrassing, as we needed a wheelbarrow to take away all the trophies from some trials we competed in. Best in tracking, best in obedience, best in protection, best overall score.....there was nothing left for anybody else! Though Exie was retired for the past four years, he still felt very much like a partner to me. This is certainly a door closing on a major part of my life. There will never be another like him. Wish him well. He was a good one.

Candy
CANDY.jpg (5038 bytes)Tuesday, June 19, 2001
Our dog, Candy, did not die, but was stolen from us and from our hearts. She was taken on March 10, 2001. We looked for her endlessly at the pounds, the shelters, and the rescues. Nobody had seen her. We put ads in the paper and flyers in the neighborhood. Not even her dog tag that offered a reward could bring her back.
We got Candy in June of 1991. She was 10 years old this month. She was our second child. We miss her very much... that funny bark, her too-friendly attitude and, most of all, her. We are considering welcoming a new puppy on Friday. We think it will be a tough day for us. Well thanks for listening

(October, 1992 - August, 1999) He is a coated Rottweiler who was mine but a short time. Together we earned his CGC, his Therapy Dog title, and he took and passed his American Temperament Test under a German judge. We also participated in numerous obedience fun matches. Due to his coat, he was always the center of attention, and I can't tell you the number of offers I had of people wanting to buy him. Of course he never left my side :-) I miss him terribly. There is something so special about these dogs.

Deja Perry-Kupsch (June 1996 to September 10th, 2001)
Deja, my darling gentle daughter, rescued by your daddy while working on  the neighborhood cable lines one hot summer day. I witnessed your horrible torture by the man and took you away from the pain along with  your mommy and daddy. From first sight and lick, I know that both our lives would change forever. The entire Kupsch and Perry families will miss you as does your young puppy daughter, Pickles.

Dewey
Dewey - Left for The Bridge on December 19, 2001
Sara Haddon of Plantation Animal Rescue - Dalmatian Rescue -IL/IN writes: Dewey (aka Winston) was turned into an animal shelter in New Jersey.  He has NO hair and had been misdiagnosed with sarcoptic mange.  As a result, he was placed in isolation for two months with no outside contact.  When he was FINALLY treated, he was placed for adoption and I was called.  I agreed to take him, along with a seven year old female, also in the New Jersey shelter.  With the kind efforts of some other rescue folks working together from New Jersey to Indiana, Dewey and Pearl were transported over the first weekend in December to our shelter in Illinois. I had been told that Dewey was six to eight years old.  He was NOT!!  He was somewhere around TWELVE!  He was so wracked with arthritis that he could hardly walk, nor could he hold up his head.  Around his neck were scars from collars.  His toes had been frozen.  He had severe arthritis in his back and neck and suffered from a total loss of bladder and bowel control. He NEVER EVER should have been left to suffer.  We tried everything to help him, including drugs and massage therapy.  my vet was convinced that the lameness in his front leg was cancer - he would fall down and would be very disoriented. So, last night, I helped him the only best way I could...I sent him to The Bridge... My vet did it slowly, so there were a couple minutes where he was awake and pain-free.  His face became so beautiful...not all scrunched up...he was finally free of pain and in a far better place than the apparently sad life he had.
Sara Haddon

Dear Winston,

I do not know all that you suffered, only that you did
I do not know why your owners left you, only that they did
I do not know how to fix your pain, only that I must
I do not know how I found the strength, only that I must
I tried to fix what someone else broke
I tried to mend the cancer in your bones
I tried to show you love you never had
Now God has your paw, you are whole again
Sara

April 18, 2002 - loved, owned and waiting at The Bridge for Renice Zimmerman (This photo was taken the day Razz finished his championship out of the 12-18 mo puppy class...it was a BEAUTIFUL day!.) Razz joined his Rott'n surrogate *moms*,  Ara and Beste at the Bridge today. The staff at my new vet clinic couldn't have been better!  They had a beautiful quilt ready for us and ice cubes for Razzie. We did one last desperate measure of x-rays and bloodwork to look for tumors.  Razz went from 200.8 lbs in February at his annual physical to 149 lbs. at today's weight. We found a grapefruit sized tumor in the abdomen and a mass on the right leg. He will be deeply, deeply missed!  My vet was in tears by the time we were done, listening to me tell him to run and get Beste and Ara....that they were waiting at The Bridge... to give them a big hug from down here...and thanking him for our wonderful eight years together. All of you go hug your babies.  We never have them long enough.

RUDY
Rudy went to Rainbow Bridge on May 2, 2002. Rudy was and still is the soul and spirit in this family. The boys he raised are in the picture with him a few days before he felt no more pain. Rudy had tumors throughout his lungs and tummy. He was born November 8,1992.  I and his mother chose him when he was two weeks old, and he came home with me the day he turned eight weeks. Boy, did Rudy's mom give me the best dog, child and friend I could ever have had!   He was 1 1/2 years old when I went into labor for Joey, our oldest child.  Rudy stayed by my side as always   and kept licking my stomach with every contraction (he was a colicky puppy, so I had to always rub his tummy) ... so I guess he was returning the belly rubs. He also helped with our second son, Willie. And he carried out parenthood, also, because he never left them alone when they were home or if he was with us camping, at the park or visiting friends. When the boys went to school he put them on the bus and got them off the bus. He knew the exact time. And he was always at the door exactly when his Daddy came home from work. He also took on the resposibility of helping with my Mom with Alhiezmers until we mourned her passing. And Rudy raised two kittens and a Bloodhound puppy who is mourning him terriably. Rudy was a gentle giant. He loved life itself, and whoever was in his life he loved unconditionally. He was a lifesaver, guardian, and best friend who helped me through a lot of tough times. I am missing him so badly!  I just wish he was still here with me. The only good thing is that he is not feeling the pain he had.  He never complained.  He still tried to do everything he did before, but just couldn't. So, if you could please add his picture and my memory of him for everyone to see, then maybe it will help heal the hole I have now aching for him.
Thank you

ELLA
Ella Fontaine, the Geriatric Dane , and forever foster-died from Bloat and Torsion-  Everything was fine, then it wasnt-This beautful loving creature was attacked by her own body-we rushed to the ER clinic, but she was failing fast-They believe she also had a mass on her spleen-she was literally dying right in front of me-We opted to put her down, as the damage was so severe so quickly.  She was in shock and they could not find any peripheal pulses on her- This love of a Great Dane, this massive mushy faced dog, stole everyones heart who met her-There wasnt  a person she didnt love, not a boo boo toy she wouldnt carry around like her baby.  She was here, and in a moments notice gone-We had her 9 months-her owners took her to Chicago Animal Control to be PTS-they talked them into signing her over then called me-We had no doubt when we saw her, that she would be coming home with us.  I have no regrets, just a broken heart
Ella, Mama loves you-rest my love....til we meet again

Lifetime, loved, owned and waiting at The Rainbow Bridge for Mike and Mimi Prisco...Gina was an outstanding example of the Rottweiler breed both in type and temperament. DARBY - March 5, 1995 - August 4, 2002
Everything thing was great...then that Sunday morning everything went bad. Darby's body was rebelling against her. We rushed her to the emergency clinic and the outlook was grave. We were told that she would not live but a few more hours and painful ones at that.  We opted to put her down. This was one of the hardest things we ever had to do, but it needed to be done. Just days before she was playful and full of love for anyone. It seems as if she was here then instantly taken away. We received Darby as a pup and knew right away how special she was to our famiy. She was a fun filled dog and will be missed greatly. Darby was loved and cherished and will be dearly missed by us all. We will miss you, Darby, terribly. We will see each other again  at the Bridge.

ANGUS
We just lost our Rottweiler of 4 years.  He was the best dog we could ever imagine having,  considered him one of my children.  It was very hard for me to put him down, but we know that was the only choice.  What helped was that day I took him to park one last time to play and drink from the lake.  I got to spend a couple hours with him, which I knew made him very happy.
We love you and will miss you very much.

Thanks. This website really helped me a lot to deal with this.

SOPHIE
I rescued her from a shelter and about 2 weeks later she died. We suspect she died from abuse related injuries...she had a hernia and a suspected broken spine. We don't know how old she was, the original owner had said she was 2.  One vet said she was 8-11 months and another vet said she was about 8 years old. We will never know.

Loved and missed by Carrie

November 1, 1997 - July 15, 2002

Basha was one of a kind. A dog that was non-stop play. She was my very first Schutzhund dog. She put up with all my mistakes and took them in stride. Always willing to do what ever I asked of her. There was a bond between her and I that cannot be matched. We were a team. Through and through. My eyes and heart ache from the loss of her. I look so forward to seeing her again. I know she is keeping the angels busy chasing after her while she chases rabbits and squirrels all day long with the never ending energy that was Basha.

I'll see you soon my friend!

RACQUEL
Racquel Donovan Vu Vis Major
November 17, 1997 - July 28, 2002
Like a bright, white bolt of lightning, this loving and joyful spirit arrived. We did many things together and had an enormous amount of fun. I wish she hadn't been my first, so that the mistakes I made in learning to communicate would not have been visited upon her.

We visited and entertained our friends, sometimes by tracking them. No one
was ever unintentionally intimidated by her. We traveled the U.S. and
Mexico - lakes, deserts, rivers, mountains, oceans, she enjoyed a goodly
amount of this world. Mostly, we just enjoyed each other's company.

She cured various ills during her too-short time here, but would never admit
her own pain and suffering. She drove unflinchingly to the end. She was
beautiful to more than the eye.

She was loved by nearly everyone fortunate enough to have met her. Upon
learning of her departure, many of them cried with me. She was the finest
thing I've experienced. And like some strange penitence, I had to summon an
usher from the Rainbow Bridge. Something pure left this earth that day as
that lightning bolt retracted skyward.

And I miss her sorely.Scott Donovan

BESTE

Beste was the soul mate dog that only those special dogs can be. She was a star in the ring and raised the Mastiff puppies to be good dogs. She showed the world how good a good Rottweiler can be. Now she is at peace.

So many lives she blessed.
For long and long she'll be recalled,

BRUNO
08/11/2001 - 16/06/2003 ~ The light of my life
June 16, 2003 my best friend ever passed away next to my bed. I wasn't home to hold him in my arms. Two days ago we had visited his vet, Something was wrong, and he said everything is ok not to worry. I still can't believe that I let this happen. We did so many things together. I remember his bright eyes looking at me filled with love. He meant so much to me. My husband is a captain, so Bruno was my only companion in an empty house. I was planning my summer vacation with him, he loved swimming! He was so young. There is nothing on this earth that can fill this void.

Until we meet again...
I LOVE you and MISS you
Forgive me my baby

CARLA
On March 30,2004, we sent our loyal and loving Rottie, Carla, to the Rainbow Bridge. She was born on March 10, 1995 with neurological problems which slowly eroded her ability to walk normally. In February 2002 she endured surgery to repair a torn cruciate ligament. She recovered well, and for two more years we provided her with the best possible quality of life for a handicapped dog. Recently she developed an aggressive osteosarcoma. Facing only a few more months with  progressive, unrelenting pain, we chose to let our vet end Carla's life with the dignity with which she lived it.Carla is keenly missed by Nancy and Susan Reim and the three other dogs who live with us -- Cookie, Jackie, and Toby.
Sincerely; Susan Reim

Hershey came into our home as a foster and adopted Angel for his owner so he stayed. He was greatly loved for the few months he was with us and is even more greatly missed. Natasha
In Loving Memory of 'Meads Natasha Jo'  - 6/11/93- 2/26/05
I've heard it said that although we may have many companions throughout our life, there is one that will be our 'heart dog'. That was Natasha. I miss her with every ounce of my being, her presence was so very large and she's left behind such a large space in our hearts and our home..and although I would never wish her back in the pain she was in, her loss is almost unbearable. A friend sent a card that said 'there is a new bright star shining in the sky tonight.. named Natasha'. A poignant memory came flooding back to me of one particular beautiful summer night several years ago- I'd gone out to our backyard and couldn't help but notice how brilliant the stars were that night- millions of them scattered across the heavens like diamonds. I looked down by my side where Natasha sat, and she was also looking up into the sky in the same direction I had been, as if she too was humbled by the vastness of creation. She gazed up at me with her beautiful soul-filled eyes, and that comfortable knowing passed between us- a connection that only those bound by the spirit can share and feel. Did she possibly see something written in the heavens that I could not? I read a passage from the e- book 'Dog Star' today that makes me think that perhaps she could..

"Dogs have it too, that spirit. I think their spirit goes up there, to Sirius, the Dog Star. I can't imagine anything else that would keep it burning so bright and constant."

So shine on, my brightest star- my brave strong girl. I am a better human being for having shared your life- your goodness- your love and your understanding. Your patience and your humor- your joy and even your sorrow. I could never wish for a more loyal or loving friend. Life must go on, but it will never be the same. Less painful with time, but never the same. Bless you all for the work you do,

CZAR
Von Diamant Czar v Regalhaus
7/11/97 - 3/12/05
While he never made it to becoming a Champion..... he was "our" Champion.......  Czar took a turn for the worse this morning, and clearly exhibited signs that it was time for him to go to the bridge. He survived 2.5 months post Lymphosarcoma diagnosis....

Czar was certainly a "spark" in this house. It is so quiet. Last night, Tom asked..... "Do we have ANY DOGS in this house?" It was that quiet. We knew he was a character and active, we just didn't realize how much "light" (and noise!) he brought into this house.

........wait for us at the bridge Bubba.... we know you are now Cancer free ..... I put your ball under your chin....

PRINCE
Prince was a great watchdog...small in size but big in heart. We had him for 17 years. In his latter years my dad and he got really really close. Prince died peacefully at home on Christmas Eve. He got up in age and wasn't eating and was suffered from arthritis; so though we miss him dearly we're glad he's suffering no more. He was my only dog, I got him when I was 5 years old. Prince was the last survivor of all his mom's litters. We will miss you, Prince.  The family loves you,

Traci, Sharron, Deborah and Lloyd Norman

MAGGIE
I lost my beloved darling Maggie to a brain tumor before her 4th birthday. It was very sudden, her condition drastically fallen in one week. Our hearts are totally broken. We loved her as our child. She was a wonderful, loving dog. Nothing will ever take this pain away. She was my best friend. I'll love her forever.

JAYDEE
We lost our rottie baby, Jaydee on February 26th (11/18/1996 - 02/26/2007).  We will meet her again at Rainbow Bridge.  She was truly an exceptional beloved, faithful companion, loving and sweet - the best rottie ever!

On a happier note, we have a MMRR, whom we adopted from you in October, 1997.  Sabre will be 10 in June (we picked Flag Day as her birthday in 1997) and is a wonderful, devoted companion.   We also have a 7 year old rottie, Harlee, who was a stray that came  to us at 3 months old from our vet.  She's still full of vim and vigor.   They miss Jaydee as much as we do.

HARLEE

We lost our beloved rottie baby, Harlee, on November 1st (08/06/1999 - 11/01/2007) to the ravages of a brain tumor.  She truly was our baby dog!   We will meet her again at Rainbow Bridge.  She was such a happy-go-lucky girl and loved everyone!  She was our goofball and could always make you laugh!  She embodied the very best of her lifemates JayDee and Sabre.  She was devoted and courageous like Sabre and so sweet and loving like JayDee.

We, along with Sabre and Ziva,  miss her dearly; but hold her for always in our heart.

Jasmine

Jasmine you were my very best friend for 11 1/2 years. You touched so many lives as a AKC Good Citizen and Therapy dog. You gave so many smiles to so many children. You will never be forgotten by them . Jasmine I will never forget the day you saved my life , I will never forget all the love, the kisses, the late night walks and the early morning jogs. We had the best time of our lives , I only wish it could have been longer. You may have had to leave me behind here for a little while , but my love goes with you girl. Wait for me at the bridge , I can't wait to see you again soon. Love Mom

The Candle Ceremony

The candles being lit tonight

Cast a soft and welcome flame.

And draw our loved ones to the light,

As we call to them by name.

Imagine spirits taking flight,

For a moment our souls entwine.

Say not Good Night, but in some

Brighter Time

Bid them all -

Good Morning!

When You Need Me

And if I go,
while you're still here
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure
-behind a thin veil you cannot see through.

You will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again
- both aware of each other.

Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
I will be there.

**Not an Angel**

The young pup and the older dog lay on shaded sweet grass watching
the reunions. Sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes a
whole family would approach the Rainbow Bridge, be greeted by
their loving pets and cross the bridge together.

The young pup playfully nipped at the older one. "Look! Something
wonderful is happening!" The older dog stood up and barked,
"Quickly. Get over to the path."

"But that's not my owner," whined the pup, but he did as he was told.
Thousands of pets surged forward as a figure in white walked on
the path toward the bridge. After the glowing figure passed each
animal, that animal bowed it's head in love and respect. The figure
finally approached the bridge, and was met by a menagerie of joyous
animals. Together, they all walked over the bridge and disappeared.

The young pup was still in awe. "Was that an angel?" he whispered.

"No, son." The older dog replied. "That was more than an angel.
That was a person who worked rescue."
